Gweithdy cofnodi mân enwau lleoedd dyffryn Dyfi
Mae’r prosiect hwn yn bartneriaeth rhwng Cymdeithas Enwau Lleoedd Cymru a Siop Lyfrau’r Senedd-dy, Merched y Wawr, amaethwyr lleol, Ysgol Bro Hyddgen, a chymdeithasau pysgota.

‘DILYN DYFI
IAITH YN LLIFO O’R TIR

Cynllun gan ‘Gymdeithas Enwau Lleoedd Cymru’ mewn cydweithrediad â Siop Lyfrau’r Senedd-dy, Glasbrint a’r gymuned leol yw hwn, un sydd wedi tyfu fel caseg eira. Y bwriad oedd cofnodi mân enwau ar yr afon ac yn ei chyffiniau. Gwireddwyd hyn yn gampus, diolch i swyddogion undebau ffermio, aelodau cymdeithas bysgota a Merched y Wawr. Daethant yn eu llu i un o’n nifer weithdai yn ystod 2023 bod yn y Senedd-dy ac yng Nghaffi’r Hen Siop, Dinas Mawddwy.

Heb eu cofnodi, byddai llawer o’r enwau hyn wedi diflannu ymhen cenhedlaeth neu fwy. Arhosant yng nghof gwlad ac maent yn gyfoethog, yn celu a datgelu hanes a diwylliant y fro. Detholiad bychain yn unig sydd i’w weld ar ddehongliad o fap o’r afon ar dair baner sydd yn waddol fyd i’w

gadw yn y Senedd-dy. Mae ein dyled yn fawr i bawb a gyfrannodd ac i’r

rhai a rannodd eu casgliadau personol. Bellach mae’r cyfan ar fap digidol y gymdeithas a gellir eu gweld ar ein gwefan, o dan ‘Map Digidol’

DILYN DYFI
LANGUAGE FLOWS FROM THE LAND

This is a project by ‘The Welsh Placenames Society’ in collaboration with Siop Lyfrau’r Senedd-dy, Glasbrint and the local community, one that has gone from strength to strength. The intention was to record place names along the river and in its vicinity. This was accomplished thanks to farming union officials, fishing association members and Merched y Wawr. The contributors came in droves to one of our many workshops during 2023 whether in the Senedd-dy or in Caffi'r Hen Siop, Dinas Mawddwy.

Without being recorded, many of these names would have disappeared within a generation or more. Their richness now remains in the country's memory, revealing the local history and culture. There is only a small selection to be seen here on the interpretative banners, a legacy to be kept in the Senedd-dy. We are greatly indebted to all those who contributed and those who shared their personal collections. All are now on the society's digital map and can be seen on our website, under 'Digital Map'

AFON DYFI - Map Cymdeithas Enwau Lleoedd Cymru
Cymdeithas Enwau Lleoedd Cymru / Welsh Place-Name Society

Beth yw pwrpas casglu enwau? Holl bwrpas eu casglu a’u gwneud yn weladwy i bawb ar y we yw annog diddordeb lleol a chenedlaethol mewn enwau a’u pwysigrwydd fel cerrig camu at ein hanes a diwylliant.

Mae’n bwysig mwynhau’r enwau a’u gwarchod. Dangosodd yr enwau sut mae cymeriad yr afon yn newid hyd ei thaith o Greiglyn Dyfi i’r môr. Gobeithiwn bydd yr enwau’n ysbrydoli artistiaid, cerddorion, beirdd, crefftwyr, llenorion a phawb arall dawnus i greu gwaith creadigol fydd yn dathlu’r Afon Dyfi ac yn cadw ysbryd yr enwau i’r dyfodol.

What is the purpose of collecting names? The whole purpose of collecting them and making them visible to everyone on the web is to encourage local and national interest in names and to emphasise their importance as stepping stones to our history and culture.

It is important to enjoy the names and protect them. Here, they show how the river’s character changes along its journey from Creiglyn Dyfi to the sea. We hope the names will inspire artists, musicians, poets, craftsmen, writers and all other talented people to create creative work that will celebrate the Dyfi river and preserve the spirit of the names for the future.
